One Baby = A Mound of Laundry

personalized blanket baby shower gifts

After what may seem an eternity- you baby has arrived!

Something else arrived also mounds and mounds of laundry!  So you may feel like your always washing clothes. While you may think you need to use a baby detergent to clean your infants clothes. Rest assure that for most babies that is not the case.

While using a baby detergent you may notice that odors and stains are not coming out, if that is the case it maybe time to switch to a regular liquid detergent. If your infant suffers from allergies, eczema , a topic dermatitis or just has sensitive skin you may want to continue washing them separate from the rest of the family clothes, otherwise it’s OK to wash your infants favorite t-shirt or the beautiful, luxuriously soft personalized baby blanket that grandma bought with your regular family wash. Please don’t make the switch with out testing one piece of your babies clothing to make sure baby is not sensitive to your regular detergent.

Baby girl gifts

Baby girls are a joy to behold. They are so adorable and cute. They’re all sugar and spice and everything nice. What’s more exciting are the many adorable baby girl gifts available. It’s so nice to dress them up in the latest baby girl fashion.

Most items for girls are in pink. However, lately, girls are not just limited to the color pink. There are items in yellow, green, and purple that look as dainty and pretty as pink. Blue is still the favorite color for boys, although the colors orange and red are just close behind.

Unique baby shower gifts

Nothing is more exciting for parents than welcoming their newborn into the world. What better way to share in the excitement by hosting a baby shower party for them, especially if you are one of the parents’ closest friends or if you were chosen to be one of the godmothers. Here are some tips in organizing a baby shower:

1. Keep it intimate. Invite only the couples’ closest friends. The pregnant mother might be easily fatigued if there are a lot of guests, and she might be obliged to entertain each and every one of them.
2. Make it a potluck. This way the hostess will not have her hands full preparing all the dishes. It’s also a great way for everyone to pitch in.
3. Line up some games. Think of games befitting a baby shower perhaps add in a simple prize for the winners.
4. Talk to everyone  before the party. Brief everyone about the details of the party and ask them to bring unique baby shower gifts. It would help also if everyone shared what they plan to give to avoid duplication.
5. Make the party place festive. Balloons, ribbons, and a cake are all you need to make the party more fun and inviting.

Blue is synonymous to boys and pink to girls. That is why when choosing gifts for a baby boy, one must look into blue items. It would be horrendous to get a gift in pink!

Aside from blue, green is also acceptable. Baby boys are actually easier to dress up. They just need the basics. It’s actually the girls that have so many whimsical choices.

Head and eye injuries

A baby’s brain and eyes are fragile and should be treated as such.  Any injury to these areas should be discussed with the baby’s doctor.
 Head injuries
A child’s head is relatively large for his body size.  When a child sustains a fall from two or more feet high or is in a vehicle accident, Mom and Dad should consult his doctor.  Serious injuries merit a call to 911.  When seri0us injuries occur, do not move the child except when immediate danger is present - a fire would be such an example.  Call the doctor even for apparently mild head injuries, as the child could have suffered a concussion.

Eye injuries
Call a doctor for all eye injuries.  If a foreign object gets into the eye, flush it wilth water for at least 15 minutes.  Don’t rub the eye, and don’t let the child rub his eye.  Don’t apply medication.  It’s also not a good idea to try to remove the object yourself; call a doctor.

Keep enjoying those little ones-they grow up too fast.  And always acknowledge those fine babygifts.

First aid for Baby

One of the most important ways to prepare for your New Arrival is to get some knowledge of first aid.  Parents, grandparents, and babysitters can all prepare for those unexpected bumps and bruises by taking first aid classes and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR.  Then you will be able to remain calm, think quickly, and take proper action when Baby hurts.  Later, we will consider how to handle some of the more common infant injuries and emergencies.

Of course, I remember when I was a child, almost any hurt could be treated by letting me play with that special toy Aunt Phyllis sent along with that baby boy gift basket.

Our first words

Languaages around the world have “child words” with repeating syllables.  Like “papa” in Italian and “tata”–grandfather– in Hungarian.  The part of the brain that governs language development, at least in right-handed people, is on the left side of the brain.  this is consistant with the belief that we are born with abilities allowing us to perceive and learn our mother tongue systematically and efficently.  The area of the brain governing language development does not “learn” the language; rather, it is specialized to process language from the start.

I wonder if the brain is programmed from the start to like those unique baby gifts all of our friends and family bestow upon us at the birth of our babies. . . .

New Lead Law Empowers CPSC

The new lead law empowers the Consumer Product Safety Commission.  They now have the resources and power to regulate the children’s products and toys industries.  Once only a federal watchdog group, the CPSC, once only able to implement recalls, will be able to enforce and oversee product testing while still in the manufacturing facility, remove unsafe products from store shelves quicker, and penalize companies not following the law.

Prior to this law, the CPSC could look for unsafe items in stores, take consumer reports about injuries and other concerns, and issue recalls only after a hazard was verified.  But NOW the CPSC can monitor the safety of toys and other children’s items before it is actually sold.  Now you can be more assured than ever before that the babygifts you and Baby receive and lead-free and safe.

First Piggy Bank Wasn’t What You Think

baby piggy banks

Baby piggy banks are popular gifts for the littlest new editions. It makes sense to want to save money for baby’s future, but some may wonder why most piggy banks are in the shape of a pig? And how did this manner of saving money become such a beloved tradition?

Many historians think that this tradition started in the Middle Ages. During this time metal was not widely available and quite expensive. What was available was cheap orange clay called “pygg”. Dishes, jars and cooking pots were usually made of this material. Many families stored spare coins in these “pygg” jars. These jars latter became known as “pygg” banks. And more nearly 500 years later we still use these little jars to store money, only now they’re called “piggy” banks and actually shaped liked pigs.
